Filter Medium Change in La Marina

​John's Professional Pool Care in La Marina, Alicante have recently completed this Sand to Glass Filter Medium Change for one of our customers. Glass is more expensive than Sand initially, but has more resistance, higher filtration capabilities and a longer life expectancy.Glass is said to reduce your chemical cost by up to 30% so therefore over time more cost effective.

​Why do we recommend Sand over Glass?

​Sand

• Sand in a Private Pool can last up to five years
• The coarseness in the sand is what makes it efficient in filtering out the particles of dirt in your water
• Sand can sieve particles no smaller than 20 microns
• As the Sands coarseness is smoothed over time, your filters efficiency decreases
• The Sand can clump, calcify and create channels where water can slip through unfiltered, creating the need for more chemicals and maintenance​​

​Glass

• Glass in a Private Pool can last up to 10 years, though can be longer
• Glass has a slight negative charge which attracts fine particles
• This charge release particles upon back-washing for a more efficient cleansing
• Glass is less dense than sand and does not clump together so can sieve particles as low as 3 microns
• Glass has more resistance, therefore there is no need for more chemicals and maintenance
